We visited the castle at the end of May to meet Prince Louis Albert de Broglie at his Château de la Bourdaisière. In this beautiful greenhouse, they have been slowly growing from seed 700 different types of tomatoes from all over the world… ready to be planted for the upcoming “XX Festival de la Tomate et des Saveurs” on September 8 and 9, 2018. In 2019, Spain will be the Guest Country. We are preparing for it.
Impressive National Tomato Conservatory, a true living museum dedicated to these solanaceae with more than 750 varieties. It was created in 1998 by Prince Louis Albert de Broglie to make the Château de la Bourdaisière the other horticultural monument of the Touraine along with Villandry.
We enjoyed exploring this treasure trove of tomato varieties and selecting one at random from the orchard, which turned out to be “la Géante d’Espagne”, as Nicolas Toutain, the chateau’s gardener, told us.
We fondly remember the visit we made in May 2018 for the ELLE GOURMET feature. I love a photo that Borja Merino took at the time and I also adore the red apron from the “Prince Jardinier” collection, which is a great souvenir of our visit.
We wait patiently for a beautiful OSU Blue tomato to ripen on the bush, knowing that its flavor will be a delight thanks to the anthocyanins that give it its characteristic blue color. These same anthocyanins are excellent antioxidants and have numerous health benefits, such as preventing various types of cancer and supporting brain and liver health.
The experience at the chateau was an exciting and rewarding team effort, with months of effort, excitement and delicious tastings, all culminating in the opportunity to appear on the cover of FUERA DE SERIE “Especial Lujo” with EL MUNDO. It was a worthwhile accomplishment!
